Titled after a line in the novel, Rob Roy, by Sir Walter Scott, which takes place in the Scottish Highlands, Miller alludes to Stewart’s homeland and connects his love of the outdoors with the wilds of his two favorite places. By placing the Indian figure on horseback in the foreground, Miller emphasizes the dramatic scale of the landscape and nineteenth century romantic ideals that link native presence with primal nature.
