Here Miller has rendered a western landscape from a fork of the Laramie River to Laramie Peak in the distance, with the post set among Indian teepees that are spread across the prairie.
This painting appears to be a bit more studied that Miller’s earlier sketches, leading to supposition that it might be a later composition to which Miller has added the nearby river to the foreground landscape. The familiar grouping of Indians and teepee are at the right, and Miller has added a number of Indians relaxing, racing, and visiting in the middle distance.
