In this painting, Miller recycled his subject from CR# 468 but embellished the background. An Indian girl and her canine companion sit alongside a stream in the foreground of the painting, while a domestic scene, including another figure cooking over a fire, unfolds behind her. Tucked into a stand of trees, tall teepees loom in the right middle ground, their bases obscured by campfire smoke. Miller suggests perspective by including smaller teepees to the left of the young woman, receding into the distant prairie.
